With the addition of GooglePlus to the social networking world, we have a new definition of “hanging out”. Google Plus hangouts are an easy-to-use, built-in, group video conferencing service where up to 10 people can chat at once.
Brian Mannix is a social studies teacher and Technology Staff Developer at Great Neck South Middle School in New York and the creator of EdHangout.
EdHangout is a new weekly video chat that happens on Google Plus at 8pm EST every Wednesday night. Each week will have a different education theme featuring thought leaders who are innovating technology and education.
The Power of Ten: Discussing Education’s Future
Every Wednesday Night
8 p.m. EST in Google Hangout
Today’s EdHangout is on the topic of the future of textbooks in the classroom. This new era of using digital media in education and teaching students online (in any area where they can collaborate) vs. the old school way of having students mesmerize textbooks and take tests has some worried. Tonight we will discuss how to get past that fear. Tonight’s Edhangout will feature:
Richard Byrne of the edtech blog Free Technology for Teachers.
Catlin Tucker, English Teacher, blended learning blogger and curriculum developer.
Jayne Clair, co-founder of Teachers With Apps, Educational App. Developer, at i-Itch Inc and special education teacher.
… and myself, Shana Ray, the Digital Media + PR Manager for Collaborize Classroom.
If the Edhangout is closed out due to the ten person limit, feel free to watch it live and enter the chat on www.edhangout.com or at www.livestream.com/edhangout!
